This term we have been learning about Siapo as part of our Pacific Paradise theme.
Siapo (also known as tapa) is one of the oldest Samoan cultural art forms. It is not only a decorative art but also a symbol of Samoan culture. It is used for clothing, burial shrouds, bed covers, ceremonial garments and much more.
First we learned about designs that were traditionally used.
Then we designed our own a block using cardboard, PVA glue and pen etchings to create texture and pattern. We printed our own design on paper and then on fabric in groups.
Here are our group tapa cloths..
What is connected learning?
Connected learning is all those subjects other than reading, writing and maths such as science, social studies, PE and art. Often these can be connected within the topic, hence the name.
This year Tinwald School's theme is change. Each term has a different focus. They are:
Term 1 Facing Change
